Visualising research for universities

A snapshot into how universities are visualising research

Bringing research to life

Recently, we’ve been working a lot with universities to visualise their research.

Big wordy documents are a lot of people’s worst nightmare. At Lim, we’re experts at extracting the key insights and most important parts of a document and transforming them in a clear and visual way to help you process the information in a more digestible format.

Universities have been taking note of this and we’ve recently been invited to work on three different university projects for King’s College London, Durham University and Northumbria University.

Here’s what we’ve been working on:

Durham University

We visualised the Launch of Food Banks report for Durham University.

The report delved into what local policymakers can do to reduce the need for food banks in County Durham. For this, Ruby and Ellie live captured the launch event and pulled the key themes into one visual.

Here’s what Dr Stephen Crossley, Assistant Professor at Durham University had to say:

The image that Ellie and Ruby produced for us will be used to convey and complement some of the findings of the final, formal project report. It provides a really quick and accessible way into some of the discussions within the report, which was really important as we were working with and trying to reach people outside of academia and research networks. It has been shared widely with stakeholders and it also serves as a really useful summary of the discussions at the launch of the report.

“It was a really good experience working with Lim. There were detailed conversations beforehand in order to work out exactly what we wanted, and on the day Ellie and Ruby just got stuck in and produced an outstanding visual of the discussions that took place.”

Kings College London

We worked with Kings College London to visualise a research report on Gestational Diabetes Mellitus in pregnant women.

Read more about how we facilitated a group of women to discuss the effects the diagnosis had had on them in our case study.

“It was an absolute pleasure working with Ellie and Ruby on this piece of work! It was incredibly exciting seeing a very dense research article come to light with pictures and colour. It means that we can share our research more widely especially with those we are trying to support - women and their families.”

Northumbria University

We were invited by Northumbria University and IMPACT+ to visualise a study on the sustainability challenges and opportunities the fashion and textile industry face.

It was a brilliant day of over 75 participants discussing the challenges the industry was facing, with keynote speakers and small group conversations. We captured the research findings and key learnings from the day.

Visuals improve learning

Technology and apps have made our worlds so visual and studies show that visuals can improve learning by over 400%, so we can only see this trend gaining momentum. Watch this space.
