Canva’s Visual Communication Report states that visual fluency (the skill of creating clear compelling visuals that communicate ideas) is a must have for leaders.
The same report tells us that 74% of us remember visuals better than dull content in presentations.
These are massive stats and important ones, but focusing on presentations alone is missing a huge part of the picture.
If our brains are wired for pictures, it makes sense that we don’t just want to see visuals; we want to work with them.
Working visually during meetings improves the way teams communicate, think, and make decisions in real time. It's not just about adding visuals to a presentation; this is a way of working that turns traditional meeting structure on its head to inspire new ways of thinking and boost team productivity.

Before:
Ditch the PowerPoint deck. Instead, create a select number of slides that you can have printed in large format and stick them up around the room so they're visible throughout the meeting for reference.
During:
Individual notepads can go. Create one shared resource so everyone’s thinking is in one place. This could be a large piece of paper on the wall where ideas, challenges, questions, key takeaways, and actions are written. Use big markers. It makes it easy for people to read.
After:
Once you finish the meeting, you can take a photo of the thinking that will now be on paper all over the tables and walls. You can then share these photos with the team, and you don’t need to send out minutes either - it’s a win-win.
Once visual working becomes part of your everyday meetings, ideas are better understood, decisions are clearer, and teams work more collaboratively. Working visually stops being a ‘nice to have’ and becomes part of how your team operates successfully.
