Graphic Recording

If you’ve got a meeting coming up where your group is coming together to have a conversation, share ideas, and make decisions, a graphic recorder from Lim can capture what’s being said through our graphic recording service.

We're experienced in working alongside business leaders and our curiosity means that we quickly understand why a group needs to come together.

Graphic recording engages participants and inspires new ways of thinking. We'll create a stunning and detailed visual that will support the group in and after the meeting.

Shine a light on the conversation

It's time to give boring meetings the heave-ho and say ‘see-ya’ to the normal way you visualise content. Lim can capture content in one place, so you can keep the conversation forever. Even better, it brings the team together and everyone has a voice. And by switching things up, you’ll motivate your team and make them more productive.

Graphic recording FAQs

Graphic recording is a tool that engages participants and inspires new ways of thinking.

A graphic recorder is group process savvy and experienced in working alongside business leaders. Our curiosity means that we quickly understand the purpose of why your group is coming together, and how the visual is going to support the group both during and after the meeting.

These visuals tend to be storytelling in structure and track alongside the agenda of the meeting. They're detailed in approach and often have visual metaphors as their overarching design.

Interaction with the group will often be during breaks when participants come to see the visual. The meeting facilitator will often build in contribution time during the meeting too.

Graphic recording captures different perspectives so the links between thoughts become clearer. It can inspire new ideas, honour everyone’s input, build trust and foster mutual respect.

Our visualisers are trained and talented in listening and capturing in real time, which means prep before a session is efficient. Before the session, we have a call to talk through the agenda, logistics, and hear ideas from your side about types of imagery to include. Our admin team will organise the finer details such as commercials and material shipping.

Graphic recording in a meeting adds engagement and interaction and also creates a living artefact. Teams are proud to own these tools and they can become part of the business.

We ask to be introduced at the beginning of sessions so people know who we are and why we’re there. There’s nothing worse than creating something that people don’t engage with – instead we want to create visuals that mean something to the people in the room and bring the group together.

At its simplest, visually capturing content in the moment is called ‘live scribing’ and is usually used at big events and conferences. There is little interaction with the group and the visual is simple in structure and quick to create. Live-scribing creates a snapshot of the content that has been shared - it’s easy to understand in the blink of an eye.

Graphic recording is a more skilled technique, involving group process and facilitation. Our team is very experienced in working closely with business leaders and we'll work with you to understand the purpose of why the group is coming together. When graphic recording, the visual becomes a tool to unite and inspire.

Before the meeting we take time to understand the agenda. We like to know what's going to be happening, who is going to be speaking, and what the process is for group engagement. We also ask what we should stay away from. All of these insights will give us a good overall picture leading into the session. From there we go with the flow, listen, and watch. If we're not sure about something, be it a phrase, acronym, or link, we'll wait for a break and ask for clarity.

This comes down to what you’re using it for. We’ll always come up with some great ideas to make sure you’re getting the maximum impact from the visual for big results. We always digitise a live visual so it can be shared and used however you need. And of course, it's yours forever. Our graphic recording has been known to steer change within businesses, thoughtfully engage teams, and above all, bring a group together.

We’re experts in visualising business content and are comfortable with technical language and jargon. If there’s something particularly technical or specific to your project, we can chat about this before so everyone is on the same page. We’ll always spellcheck everything when it's digitised too.

We use Neuland pens. We’re always striving to make more sustainable choices and one of the many reasons we choose Neuland is because they’re better for the environment. They’re durable, refillable, you can change the nibs and the beautiful design means they don’t roll off the table.

Live scribing at conferences & events

If you’re hosting a conference, event, webinar, or trade show where participants will come together to listen to speakers, talk in breakouts, interact with exhibitors, and engage through audience participation, Lim can capture highlights, key moments, bright ideas, speakers and of course, the atmosphere on the day through our live scribing service.

Live scribing creates a snapshot of the content that has been shared - it’s easy to understand in the blink of an eye.

Make it memorable

Give your event that extra something to engage your audience. Our live scribes will capture the day’s story so there’s a focal point for everyone to share.

It’s also an interesting communication tool you can use after the event. Whether that's engaging with a wider audience, sharing on social media, or for using internally, our visuals will always keep the conversation going.

We’ll have a call and take a detailed brief and then we'll create a rough sketch. We always like to understand the agenda, who the speakers are, and how people are going to be moving around the event.

We’ll be there around 90 minutes before the start of the event to set up and begin to capture the event as people arrive. Our scribes will listen and draw throughout the day. We’ll then spend an hour after the event adding the finishing touches.

We’ll send you the final visual as well as a digital copy. We also believe in starting and finishing well, so we’ll have a review call to share thoughts from both sides.

Live scribing FAQs

Live scribing in a meeting, conference or event is when drawings are created in real-time using words and pictures to capture the conversation. Live scribing can happen on paper or digitally, either in the room or virtually. During the session participants see their words and thoughts captured in a high level so by the end of the session there’s a summary visual that captures what’s been discussed.

If we're live scribing your conference or event we'll usually be quietly drawing at the back of the room.

If we're not in amongst it and asking people ourselves, participants are always curious and love to come over to the board to see what we’re up to, and also contribute their thoughts and reflections from the content being shared. This means the visual is engaging and inclusive for everyone.

People also love taking selfies with the board and sharing on socials, which is just another way our visuals can elevate your event and keep the conversation going.

We typically capture a full day’s worth of content. Each event is different – sometimes we work on paper on large 3-metre wide boards, and at other times we work on an iPad. For big, multi-day events, we can create some pretty big work that has a huge impact.
